We are very excited to announce our feature retreat with award winning longarm quilter Trudi Wood. Come and spend an weekend with Trudi for some free motion quilting fun in the leafy Surrey countryside, with full on creature comforts, room to create, relax and be inspired!
The retreat will take place at the Holiday Inn Shepperton with easy access from Heathrow airport, motorways and mainline train stations. Relax in the hotel’s spacious and modern setting and ready to be inspired by our renowned industry educators. Enjoy a weekend escape with great company of like-minded people.

Tutor: Trudi Wood
Workshop - A weekend of learning free motion quilting with Trudi. You'll learn different free motion quilting motif and use the motif on a panel. Over the weekend, you'll also turn the panel into a Emmaline Retreat bag.

All workshops are beginners friendly, no previous experience
When:
Friday 15th March 2024 to Sunday 17th March 2024
Our retreat will run from Friday afternoon (approximately 1pm) through to Sunday afternoon (approximate 4pm).
Where:
Holiday Inn Shepperton, Felix Ln, Shepperton TW17 8NP.
Set in landscaped parkland, this 4-star Spa Hotel is only a short 20 minutes drive from Heathrow Airport. It is located close to M25 and M3.The Health club offers hotel guests the use of their heated swimming pool, sauna, spa pool and gym.
Itinerary for the weekend:
Friday:
2pm: Start for setting up in the sewing room with your own workstation throughout the weekend. Sewing can commence from 3:30pm once your machine has been PAT tested on site.
8:30pm: Talk and Trunk Show by Trudi
Sewing room open up to midnight
Saturday:
7:30am: Sewing Room open
9:30am - 5pm: Workshop with Trudi (you don't have to join the workshop if you prefer to work on your own project)
More sewing after dinner to Midnight.
Sunday:
7:30am: Sewing Room open
10am: Round up of the workshop from Saturday, Q&A session with Trudi for trouble shooting about the workshop
More sewing to continue till 3pm and retreat finishes at 4pm.
What’s included in the retreat package:
1) 2 nights en-suite accommodation
2) All tutor led sessions should you choose to attend
3) Full access to our sewing room
4) Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday
5) Cold Working lunch on Saturday and Sunday (excluding drinks, to be bought at the hotel bar)
6) Buffet Dinner on Friday and Saturday (excluding drinks, to be bought at the hotel bar)
7) Refreshments during the day
8) Use of hotel facilities, parking and use of the Health Club facilities, including heated swimming pool, sauna, spa and gym (excluding treatments)
Cost:
Single occupancy: £530
Shared occupancy in twin room: £485 (Please only book this if you are sharing with a someone you already know and comfortable to share with. We won't be able to organise pairing)
PLEASE NOTE:
You'll need to bring your own sewing machines to the retreat. But if you are not able to do so, we can organise one for you. Please do get in touch as we only have limited machines available.
The retreat deposit / retreat payments are non-refundable but transferable. If you are unable to attend for any unforeseen reasons, you can assign another person to take your place at the retreat.
Once we receive your order and cleared payment, we aim to ship it within 2–3 working days.
We currently dispatch orders on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only.

Can I return an item?
Yes, you can return items in their original condition within 7 days of receipt for a full refund. Please contact us before sending any returns.
Are there items that cannot be returned?
Yes, we cannot accept returns on:

Cut lengths of fabric, trims, or haberdashery (unless faulty)

How do I initiate a return?
Email us at hello@purple-stitches.com with your order details. Make sure the items are unused and in original packaging.
We recommend using a tracked service, as we can’t be responsible for returns lost in the post.
🧵 Fabric Sizes & Cutting
How are fabrics sold?
You can choose the length you need when ordering.

For quilting cotton, a quarter metre can be cut as a Fat Quarter or a Long Quarter

For dressmaking fabrics, a quarter metre will be cut as a Long Quarter
Fabric measurement guide:

ONE Fat Quarter = approx. 50cm x 55cm

ONE Long Quarter = approx. 25cm x width of fabric

ONE Half metre = approx. 50cm x width of fabric

ONE 0.75 metre = approx. 75cm x width of fabric

ONE 1 metre = approx. 100cm x width of fabric
Can I get fabric in a continuous length?
Yes! Unless otherwise stated, all multiple units will be cut and sent in one continuous piece.
What is a Fat Quarter?
A Fat Quarter is a quarter metre of fabric cut to approximately 50cm x 55cm—wider and shorter than a standard long strip. It’s great for quilting and smaller craft projects.

Are retreat payments refundable?
Retreat payments are non-refundable. However, you can transfer your place to someone else — just let us know their details.
What if Purple Stitches cancels the retreat?
You’ll receive a full refund if we cancel the event.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes — we strongly recommend that all retreat participants take out travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances.
